A Renewable Power Plant at Tilbury Docks

The Tilbury Green Power facility will generate electricity using renewable resources. Tilbury Green Power has been given permission by the Department for Energy and Climate Change to build a state of the art power plant to generate green electricity. Another way of looking at it is that this facility will create energy equivalent to approximately 175,000 tonnes of coal being burnt in a normal power station.

This fits in with the wider climate change agenda, as using renewable energy is a key weapon in the fight against climate change. In its consultation on reforms to the energy market in 2010, the Government identified the importance of ensuring that the country has access to secure, reliable and affordable supplies of energy.

Biomass fuels are carbon neutral. Using renewable sources to replace fossil fuels helps to combat global warming - green power is a step towards cleaner energy.
